PHYSIOLOGICALLY RELEVANT

Neurons depend on their highly polarized structural configuration to properly perform their primary physiological function. Devices of the OMEGAACE series replicate neuronal polarity in vitro by employing microfabricated channels, which physically separate the three chambers of the experimental unit. Despite their small size, the microchannels are large enough for axons, but not cell bodies, to pass through and project into (and interact with cultures located in) the adjacent chambers creating a more physiological in vitro model.

CHOOSE YOUR FORMAT

Depending on your needs, you can choose between three different configurations: the OMEGAACE with a 250µm wide middle chamber, the OMEGAACE-2mm with a 2mm wide middle chamber and the OMEGA96-ACE with a 8mm wide middle chamber. You can perform one experiment per device with the OMEGAACE and OMEGAACE-2mm. For drug-screening assays, we suggest using the HTS-compatible OMEGA96-ACE featuring 32 experiments per microplate!

START RIGHT AWAY

We know bonding devices can be a real hassle! That's why we ship all of our triple chamber co-culture devices pre-bonded and completely ready-to-go so that you can focus on performing experiments without losing time. OMEGAACE and OMEGAACE-2mm devices are pre-bonded to #1.5 glass coverslips and OMEGA96-ACE microplates are pre-bonded to 200µm high-transmissive glass. All devices come sterile in PBS. There is no need for you to use any plasma treatment!

ACCESS CULTURES DIRECTLY

The unique open chamber design gives you direct access to your cultures! With devices of the OMEGAACE series, you can explore new types of experimental paradigms not possible with standard closed-chamber devices. For example, chambers are large enough to house tissues that are several millimeters in diameter, easily accommodating tissue explants or self-assembled 3D cultures (e.g. spheroids, organoids). Additionally, conventional patch-clamp electrodes can openly access the cultures, allowing you to examine the electrophysiological properties of the cultures.

VERSATILE

The OMEGAACE devices are perfectly suited for in vitro triple co-culture studies of neurodegeneration, neuromuscular junction (NMJ), nigrostriatal pathway, pain, myelination, or chemotactic factors. In single culture applications, the OMEGAACE can serve as a compartmentalization tool to separate the somatic, proximal axonal and distal axonal components of neurons. The wider middle chamber of the OMEGA96-ACE gives you the highest confidence for interpreting neuronal propagation results! All devices are compatible with iPSC-derived cultures, primary cultures, immortalized cell lines, self-assembled 3D cultures (e.g. spheroids, organoids), tissue explants and you can even perform patch-clamp experiments!

APPLICATIONS

TRIPLE CO-CULTURE

In triple co-culture applications, each chamber can be used to culture a distinct cell type. For example, motor neurons, oligodendrocytes and skeletal muscle can be co-cultured in the context of neurodegeneration (ALS, Kennedy's disease (SBMA), Duchenne's muscular dystrophy). Each cell type is grown in a separate compartment, connected only via microchannels for fluidic isolation.

NEURONAL COMPARTMENTALIZATION

In the context of compartmentalization, the extra chamber is especially useful for fluidically separating neurons into three components: somatic, proximal axonal and distal axonal (growth cone). The separated chambers can then be used to apply molecules of interest or perform axotomy.
